The Mendocino Music Festival

Index Page to MMF photos by Nicholas Wilson

In July of every year since 1986, the Mendocino Music Festival's big white 850-seat concert hall tent has
occupied a special place of honor on the rocky bluffs overlooking Mendocino Bay and the Pacific Ocean

About Mendocino Music Festival

Established in 1986, the Mendocino Music Festival was the dream of former principal bassoonist of the San Francisco Symphony, Walter Green (1926 – 2007), conductor and composer Allan Pollack and pianist Susan Waterfall. The Festival is a magical blend of fine music by outstanding performers in one of the most enchanting sites in Northern California. Evenings include orchestra concerts, Big Band, chamber music ensembles, dance, blues, jazz, world, folk, bluegrass and popular contemporary music. Daytime concerts include lecture/recitals at the Piano Series, a performance by participants in the Emerging Artists Program, and small concerts in intimate venues throughout the historic towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

The Mendocino Music Festival is committed to bringing the highest quality classical and contemporary music and musicians to a place that Maestro Allan Pollack has described as ". . . one of the most picturesque towns in the world." The festival's symphony orchestra draws the majority of its musicians from members of professional orchestras in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. The festival also brings nationally and internationally known soloists to the stage during its annual two-week season. With only a handful of paid staff, the festival draws upon hundreds of volunteers from the Mendocino Coast and beyond.

Nicholas Wilson has been the festival's official photographer since the 2010 season, and contributed some photos in previous years, before the MMF allowed him to begin documenting all of its performances.
